Learn some Irish
You don't need Irish to become a citizen. But it's on every sign, in place names, and in the anthem at your ceremony.
Good to know
- Irish is not required for citizenship. The proposed 2026 Bill would add a language test, but English counts.
- The national anthem is usually sung in Irish at citizenship ceremonies.
- Road signs, place names and many official forms are in Irish and English.
